5 New Year Resolutions for your Dog

Have you taken the opportunity of the “new year new me” season to come up with positive changes for your family, including your dogs? Although our dogs may not be as goal-oriented as we are — dogs do share the eagerness of doing something new (or bringing back the old), which is why you should help them follow a new year’s resolution for 2026.

  1. Start Measuring Your Pet’s Food

Although a bowl-size portion of pet food may be appropriate for your dog, you may have the tendency of refilling it you are giving your dog extra food throughout the day. We may not notice it in the beginning thing the weight gain creeps up over time, or we thought it would balance out with physical activity, consider being more mindful of how much your dog eats. Taking this preventative measure will help your dog avoid obesity, and you can understand their appetite.

  1. Teach Your Pets New Tricks

A fun New Year’s resolution involves teaching your dog new tricks. You can do this by spending at least 10 minutes each day teaching your pet a trick or behaviour. This can be sitting, holding still, or not pulling at the leash during walks. Building the habit of practicing new tricks will help your communication with your dog.

Learning how to care for your dog at home properly is an excellent skill to have, just in case a situation happens. With understanding the basics of pet first aid, you’ll be saving money by taking your dog to the vet for minor injuries or even identifying issues to bring up to a vet.
